SMC Announces Opening of Cambridge Pharma
SMC announces the opening of Cambridge Pharma a new business offering pharmaceutical development services, including sterile fill-finish. The new 20,000 sq ft facility located at the Cambridge Research Park, UK, includes a purpose-built sterile fill-finish facility, a process development laboratory and an analytical laboratory. SMC Ltd. Announces Expansion for Costa Rica Facility
With continued growth, SMC Ltd. announces expansion of its Costa Rica facility in the Coyol Free Zone Park in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The expansion will double its current facility bringing it to 120,000 square feet in Costa Rica. With the additional space, SMC Costa Rica will provide increased contract manufacturing solutions including: assembly, injection molding and secondary operations, giving our global customers and MedTech companies in Costa Rica more options for SMC to become their strategic partner. SMC Ltd. Partners to Create Face Shields For First Responders
SMC Ltd. is providing face shields to first responders through a partnership with 3 other companies also donating their services. SMC’s engineering and tooling department designed and built tooling for the face shields in a record 72 hours, then molded the headband frames from resin donated by Eastman. A third company donated the replaceable clear film which attaches to the frame. SMC’s Somerset, WI location molded 10,000 headband frames that were donated to Hospitals in Massachusetts for first responders in the fight against COVID-19. SMC’s Devens Massachusetts location receives Global Trade Award from AIM (Associated Industries of Massachusetts)
Recognized for its success in Global Medical Device manufacturing excellence, SMC Devens received the Global Trade Award at the AIM annual trade symposium held in November. AIM recognizes Massachusetts leading companies for excellence in global trade. SMC’s Vice President and Massachusetts General Manager, Brian Payson, accepted the award.

SMC Joins Innovative Packaging Panel During the Future of Packaging Conference, Chicago, IL May 8
SMC’s Mike Fritschy, VP Engineering and Product Development, will be part of a panel of speakers during the Future of Packaging Conference held in Chicago IL, May 8, 2019. The panel will discuss topics such as: how medical OEM customer needs are evolving and impact on packaging; risk/reward for OEMs considering innovative packaging; and how healthcare packaging markets can be characterized differently based upon their use.
SMC Receives Grant

SMC Ltd. announced today expanded drug delivery device capabilities with a dedicated pharmaceutical class 7 clean room in its Somerset, Wisconsin facility. “As we continue to experience growth in the Pharmaceutical market, we realized the need for additional clean room capabilities in our Somerset, WI location. The dedicated class 7 clean room will house a major customer, and allows room for future growth. Manufacturing Day For Somerset WI High School Students
SMC Ltd. recently hosted a manufacturing day for 64 sophomore students in partnership with the Somerset Wisconsin High School. Students spent the day with SMC employees in classrooms and touring various manufacturing areas for a first-hand look into the manufacturing processes of medical devices. During tours, students had the opportunity to interact with SMC employees who shared how each area in manufacturing comes together to complete a device. Tours also provided students with a glimpse into possible career opportunities. “We really tried to give the students a great understanding of all aspects of our business” said Eric Malmgren, Engineering Services Manager, SMC Ltd. “It’s important to us (SMC Ltd.) to expose students to skilled positons available in manufacturing beyond what they traditionally might have known.
